Types of filters in Microstrategy

Types of filters in Microstrategy Below are the types of filters: 1. Attribute qualification filter These types of qualifications restrict data related to attributes on the report. a) Attribute form qualification Filters data related to a business attribute’s form(s), such as ID or description. •  For example, the attribute Customer has the forms ID, First Name, Last Name, Address, and Birth Date. An attribute form qualification might filter on the form Last Name, the operator Begins With, and the letter H. Microstrategy Filters & Prompts explained

Microstrategy Filters & Prompts explained Filters Specify conditions required for data to be included in a report. A filter specifies the conditions that data must meet to be included in a report or a metric. Filters limit the data that is extracted from the data source and focus the data presented to the end user. When building a report, users can create filter expressions that include sophisticated conditional clauses in order to pull specific slices of information. Within reports and documents, end users can further narrow down results by adding view filters that dynamically change the subset of data being displayed. Prompts A prompt allows a user to provide an answer to restrict or filter data during report execution. P rompts allow report designers to create reports that let users change the report content at run time.  Prompts can modify the definition of custom groups, filters, metrics, and templates, as well as reports. P...

Microstrategy document/dashboard applying selections as filters or slices

Applying selections as filters or slices In a Microstrategy Document the selections a user makes in a selector can either filter or slice the data in the target: Filtering means that the data for the current selection is calculated only when it is requested by the user. The selections are used to filter the underlying dataset before the metric values are aggregated at the level of the Grid/Graph that is displayed in the document. If the source attribute is not included in the Grid/Graph, the metric values from all the selected elements are aggregated and shown at the level specified in the Grid/Graph. All metric condition selectors (which filter metric values or ranks) and selectors that target other selectors filter data by default. You cannot change them to slicing selectors. Slicing means that the data for each available item in the selector is calculated in advance when the document is first displayed. Selections made while ...
